Believe it or not today’s topic, 3 keys to an extraordinary life, is not a unique to this blog…gasp! Seriously, just Google it, and you’ll find a variety of one-size-fits-all answers from all sorts of beloved gurus. Come to think of it, you could probably pick any 3 principles related to self-improvement, apply them to your life consistently, and you would create an extraordinary life.
The 3 keys I’ll share today come from my experience (and they are unique to this blog). They have become a recurring theme in my success, and have represented a consistent guiding light for me during tough times.
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, (thankfully) I am still a work in progress. My goal is not to become a guru…I wouldn’t look good with a beard anyway. No, my goal is to become a valuable resource, a catalyst to your life dreams.
So feel free to borrow my 3 keys to an extraordinary life, or use them as a springboard to discover your own…what is it that you desire?
My 3 keys to an extraordinary life:
1. Be yourself.
This quote is from Desiderata and has meant a lot to me through the years:
“You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here.”
To your best ability let your unique self-expression shine through every circumstance. If we are alert to our environment, we will discover the right opportunities to express ourselves. Each situation may call for a different outward expression, but if we are true to ourselves, we can adjust easily while remaining authentic.
2. Be willing to change.
Stay with me here…While this may seem at odds with my previous statement, our willingness to change—to see the world anew—is a must if we wish to have success cultivating authentic self-expression.
We see the world through lenses that have been created through our experiences, and the experiences of those who influence us.
WARNING! WARNING! If you’ve ever felt the need to defend your personality with the words,“ This is just who I am…” perhaps it’s time to hit the refresh button and see if it is the greatest expression of who you really are. Defensiveness usually means we are trying to hide something not so pretty.
3. Do not judge or label people or situations.
I can say from experience, that the process of breaking this common habit has been profound…and extremely difficult. We are human label makers, aren’t we? Sticking our judgments and opinions on everything and everyone. YIKES!!!! It sounds like the making of a comedic horror movie.
Why on earth do we do it? This is a big topic and deserves a separate post…. so stay tuned. But to get started try practicing awareness, and hold off whipping out the old label maker when a judgment pops up. Habits like this one are tough to break, but a little bit awareness can go a long way.
There you have it, my 3 keys to an extraordinary life! What are yours? I know it will take time to get people commenting and opening up… but maybe you can help get things rolling. Come on, (make up a fake name if you have to) and share your thoughts.
Live an extraordinary life…
